Gary Finch

Gary attended Commonwealth Mortuary College in Houston, in 1966. He joined his family firm after that, and eventually became a co-owner in 1971. He operated Finch Funeral Home with his brother for twelve years. He sold his interest in the family firm in 1982, and left to pursue other interest. The other interest included advertising, marketing, and publishing.

He returned home in 1991 to rest, play golf, and consider other opportunities. This is when his brother, Don Finch, ask Gary to review his OSHA program. Even though Gary had left the business, he realized this was right up Gary’s alley. Once he began to research the requirements, he realized that the complexities of compliance were such that it would make sense to write a broad funeral home safety program. This would be used by his brother, by area firms, and conceivably by funeral homes all over the state.

Twelve years later Gary is still building compliance programs for funeral homes. It is safe to say that the company has grown beyond his initial vision. Today, Compliance Plus is national, and Gary’s program is known for its simplicity, its innovative training programs, and its outstanding track record in OSHA inspection.

Tom Maupin

Tom is a third generation funeral director. His career is diverse. He served as Assistant Mortuary Service Officer in Saigon, Viet Nam in 1968. He has represented numerous suppliers, and served as National Sales Manager for ESCO in 2001.

Tom earned a Master’s of Education degree from Mississippi State. He served as Director of Mortuary Science studies at East Mississippi Community College. He taught Microbiology, Embalming, Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology.

Tom presents a unique and common sense attitude to dealing with OSHA. His insight and knowledge of standards take the guesswork out of compliance. He has conducted compliance related education seminars thorough-out the Midwest.

Dave Bednar

Dave represents our youth movement as he was licensed in Pennsylvania in 1971. In the strictest sense, calling Dave a representative is inaccurate. He, along with his wife Pam, should be described as their own entity. That entity handles Messenger, ESCO, and Compliance Plus.

Dave joined us in 1999, after undergone several months of training. Since then, it has been Dave doing the training as he has installed our program in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, New York, New Jersey and other states. He has conducted educational seminars at multiple state conventions.

Dave joined the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice in 1999. He received his Certified Funeral Service Practitioner designation in 2003. Dave maintains a close working relationship with members in his area. He also has a close working relationship with Ed Ranier, the legal counsel that advises NFDA on OSHA matters.
